The Brief & Architectural Challenge

Reimagining a Dark Space for Coastal Living

This house Green Point presented a unique opportunity to transform a dark, outdated residence into a vibrant, high-end holiday home.

Situated in a prime location with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Seaboard, the property had unfortunately lost its connection to its surroundings through years of disjointed renovations. Our primary goal was a general upliftment of the interior to align it with its new purpose as a luxury Airbnb and hospitality retreat. The architectural challenge was twofold. First, we had to address a home that had changed hands frequently, resulting in unusual layouts and "dead zones," including a formal boardroom that felt entirely out of place in a holiday setting. Second, we needed to design with the view in mind, pulling the natural elements of the Cape Town coastline into the interior palette.

The client required a space that was clean, calm, and functional, yet warm enough to feel like a private sanctuary for holiday makers.

The Technical Edge & Procurement

Technical Integrity Meets Hospitality Demands

Designing for a high-capacity hospitality property requires a specific technical lens. Because beauty must be backed by longevity, every material selection was a calculation of tactile quality and high-performance durability. We moved away from clinical finishes, opting instead for hard-wearing leathers and rustic woods that age gracefully under the demands of frequent guests.

Every rug and upholstery fabric was vetted for its ability to withstand constant use while maintaining its sophisticated feel. Although the timeline led us toward local procurement for the larger furniture pieces, we maintained our signature technical touch through custom-manufactured window treatments. These bespoke curtains and blinds allow for precise light control, essential for a home that revolves around the changing Cape Town sun. By integrating textural wall cladding and curated local art, we added layers of interest that feel organic rather than decorated.

The On-Site Reality & Expertise

Solving the Invisible Challenges

Real-world design often happens in the awkward corners. The Green Point House was full of them; angled walls and sloped ceilings created dead space that felt surprisingly small for such a large property. We treated these as opportunities rather than obstacles, transforming an abandoned fireplace nook into a cozy family lounge area. This small intervention significantly increased the property’s guest capacity without making the room feel crowded.

Safety and security were equally paramount. We updated the multilevel home by integrating glass and steel balustrades where barriers were missing, ensuring the space was safe for international travelers. To provide the owner with a private sanctuary during their own visits, we structured the home as a 4-bedroom layout, with the fourth bedroom acting as a separate, private area. We installed a sophisticated electronic locking system on this primary suite, allowing it to remain off-limits to guests while the rest of the home operated as a seamless 10-sleeper hospitality venture.

The Finish Line & Result

Where Functionality Meets the Horizon

The result is a home that calls for long afternoons of entertaining and quiet mornings looking out at the ocean. We successfully navigated the technical hurdles of an old renovation to deliver a space that feels layered, intentional, and remarkably homely. The client was thrilled with a transformation that finally did justice to the property's incredible location.
